Podolny, Alla

Advanced Lecturer

MATH 117 Coordinator

Dr. Alla Podolny received a B.S. in Mathematics, Physics and Education from Samara State University (Russian Federation) and her Master and Ph.D. in Applied Mathematics from the Technion - Israel Institute of Technology. Her Ph.D. research was devoted to fluid dynamics problems. Specifically, she studied surface-tension-driven instabilities in binary solutions and nano fluids in the presence of thermodiffusion.

After completing her Ph.D. in 2008 Dr. Podolny held a postdoctoral position in the Department  of Engineering Sciences and Applied Mathematics at Northwestern University. Her postdoctoral project concerned mathematical modeling of preservation of biological cells. She published extensively and had numerous awards for her research including the prestigious Fulbright Post-Doctoral Fellowship.

Dr. Podolny has considerable undergraduate teaching experience from three countries, Russia, Israel and the United States. Before joining Loyola, Dr. Podolny held a part-time lecturer position in the Department of Mathematics and Computer Science at Lake Forest College. She had been teaching a variety of courses including PreCalculus, Calculus I, II, Multivariable Calculus, Differential Equations.
