About
Peter M. Sanchez earned his Ph.D. and M.A. in government from the University of Texas at Austin, and his B.A. in political science from the University of Florida in Gainesville, Florida. He taught in the department of political science at 草莓社区 from 1993 until 2020, attaining the rank of full professor in 2008. He served as the Graduate Program director in the department from 2003 to 2008 and from 2013 to 2020. His general area of expertise was in comparative politics, with specializations in democratization, US-Latin American relations, and Latin American politics. Prof. Sanchez authored two books: Panama Lost? U.S. Hegemony, Democracy, and the Canal (University Press of Florida, 2007); and Priest under Fire: Padre David Rodr铆guez, the Catholic Church, and El Salvador鈥檚 Revolutionary Movement (University Press of Florida, 2015). He also authored numerous book chapters and articles published in academic journals, such as Journal of Latin American Studies, International Politics, The Latin Americanist, Annals of Tourism Research, Harvard Journal of Hispanic Policy, Peace Review and Journal of Developing Areas. Dr. Sanchez was a Senior Fulbright Scholar in Panama in 1997-1998. He conducted field research in Cuba, the Dominican Republic, El Salvador, Guatemala, Panama and Peru. In addition to teaching at Loyola鈥檚 Lake Shore Campus, Prof. Sanchez taught a study abroad class in Cuba in 2004 and 2017, taught at Loyola鈥檚 John Felice Rome Center in academic year 2008-2009 and summer 2015, and taught on Semester at Sea in summer 2007, fall 2010, May 2012, and summer 2014. Prior to teaching at Loyola, he served for 15 years in the US Air Force, attaining the rank of major, and taught at the US Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, Colorado.
