About

Professor Maboudi鈥檚 research and teaching interests include democratization, authoritarianism, comparative constitutional studies, environmental laws and policies, and Middle Eastern politics. His most recent research focuses on the impact of environmental laws on climate policies. His work has appeared in the American Political Science Review, Comparative Political Studies, Government and Opposition, Journal of North African Studies, Political Research Quarterly, and Studies in Comparative International Development. He is also the author of two books. His co-authored book, Constituents before Assembly: Participation, Deliberation, and Representation in the Crafting of New Constitutions (Cambridge University Press, 2017) examines the impact of citizen participation in constitution-making on levels of democracy across 118 countries. His second book, The 鈥淔all鈥 of the Arab Spring: Democracy鈥檚 Challenges and Efforts to Reconstitute the Middle East (Cambridge University Press, 2022), looks at the Arab Spring constitutions and democracy鈥檚 pathways of success and failure in the Middle East and North Africa.
